I hear your little feet, the soft sound of tiny patters through the summer grass. I hear your little wing, the feathers catching and gently rubbing as you stretch it out over your pointed toes. And your quick shake as all the feathers puff out and swirl around rapidly before you slick them all down again with the magic of you. Dust from your bath catches the air around you, and the light carries it away. I hear your chirp, your tiny voice, and the abrupt movement of your head. Your wide eye on mine. The little blue film that rises from your underlid as I stroke your back and you calm under my touch. I feel the warm sun upon you, how it’s turned your back into a blanket, perfect for a nap on a summer day. I see you bend your backward knees, and plop down in the grass. Your beak falling slowly downward as your eyes close. What is this magic? I lay my head upon the grass beside you and close my eyes too. I feel the sun blanketing my skin as it did your feathers. I hear your little breaths, can picture your round body rising and falling as you sleep. The yellow fluff that clings to you churning in the breeze. I feel my lips turn upward into a smile. All because of you.
