I.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will not conform,
But I will comply
To bear this pain you bring<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I can loose the chains
Of bitterness and
Feel wind again on my wings.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I choose to bear this
Pain you\u2019ve caused\u2014
The pain you could not dispel\u2014<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I can focus now
On healing and
Making all within me well.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

II.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You extend your hand
And in it lies your
Rage, disappointment, shame<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each secreting a
Steamy fume
As you gesture for me to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I blink and stare at
The offering,
Gag as the smells reach my throat,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But then I grasp the
Slimy mess
And let my fingers close<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until I have it all
In hand and
Can bear it out to show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You stare and nod
As my stomach churns
And the blood runs from my face\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I raise my hand toward
Open lips while
A stream of tears escapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then bursting brave,
I toss it in
And my parted lips concave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It burns and scourges
Bitterly on
My already-bitter tongue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But once I chew and
Force it down, it\u2019s
Like nothing was ever wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when it\u2019s gone,
I look at you
And at last, again I see<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those shining eyes
That I couldn\u2019t find
When my sight was blocked by steam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

III.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I choose to bear this
Pain you\u2019ve caused
So I can finally forgive<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And release the bonds
Of bitterness
